Characteristics of Insects
- Insects have an exoskeleton, meaning that their skeletons are on the outside of their bodies.
- Insects' bodies are divided into three main parts, a head, a thorax, and an abdomen.
- There are approximately one million known species of insects, with potentially many more species that are unknown.
- Insects can be found in various habitats around the world, from warm, tropical climates to the frigid temperatures of the tundra.
- Insects have two antennae attached to their heads. The antennae can be used to detect smells.
Examples of insects include ants, bees, wasps, dragonflies, grasshoppers and beetles.
