Characteristics of Ray-Finned Fish
- Skeleton is made of bone.
- Fins consist of several thin bones that are encapsulated by skin.
- Most ray-finned fish breathe with gills, although some can breathe air.
- Largest number of species of vertebrates.
- Can be found all over the world in various water temperatures, from frigid, arctic water to warm, tropical areas.
Examples of chondrichthyes include angelfish, bass, salmon, catfish, carp and gar.
